长沙市长郡中学系湖南省示范性普通高级中学，位于长沙市黄兴南路，古老的天心阁，纳楚天之灵气，赋予她沉稳与坚毅；美丽的湘江水接云梦之菁华，赋予她壑智与神韵。学校创立于1904年，当时正值清朝 末年，废科举，兴学堂，长沙知府颜钟骥创办长沙府中学堂，是当年唯一 的府立中学堂。1912年，民国建立，废除府制，长沙府所属各县有识之士倡议，集中人力、物力、财力创办府中学堂，定名为湖南长郡公立学校。1914年采各县联合办学方式，改名湖南第一联合县立中学。此后又先后更名为长郡公学、湖南第一联合县立中学、湖南长郡联立中学校、长沙市第一中学（1951）、长沙市第二中学、长郡中学。
一个世纪以来，光阴荏冉，岁月悠悠，春风化雨，陶铸群英。学校以“朴实沉毅”为校训， 不仅造就了徐特立、李维汉、陈子展、周世钊、杨少岩等一代名师，还孕育了郭亮、任弼时、李立三、李富春、肖劲光、曾三等老一辈无产阶级革命家，以及张孝骞、沈其震等十二位中国工程院院士和中国科学院院士，此外，著名美学家蔡仪、音乐家吕骥等学者和青年歌唱家张也等都先后就读于长郡中学。
改革开放以来，学校认真贯彻党的教育方针，全面实施素质教育，在继承传统的基础上，提出了“以人为本，追求卓越”的办学理念，积极推进课程改革和学校管理体制的改革，向教研教改要质量。学校工作整体推进，办出了规模，也办出了特色。
1995年以来，学校高考升学率居湖南省领先位置，2007年高考，有近50人考入北大清华和香港大学。在高中数、理、化、生、信息。学五科奥赛中共有290余人获省级以上一等奖，其中20余人进入国家集训队。1999年彭晓聿同学参加在瑞典举行的第十届国际生物学奥林匹克竞赛，个人总分第一名夺得金牌。2003年黄璞同学参加在白俄罗斯举行的第十四届国际生物奥赛，个人总分世界排名第二夺得金牌。2004年，栗师、胡伟栋同学通过层层选拔，同时入选国家队，代表中国参加国际信息学奥林匹克竞赛，并夺取两枚金牌。2005年，胡伟栋同学再夺一枚国际金牌。2007年，郭华阳同学获第十九届国际信息学金牌。学校体操队曾四次代表中国参加世界中学生体操比赛，荣获金牌5枚、银牌8枚、铜牌9枚。在文艺方面，学校参加湖南省第二、三届重点中学文艺调演，获声乐、器乐、舞蹈等五个单项一等奖，连获两届团体总分第一名。近年学校先后被评为全国学校民主管理先进集体、全国学校体育卫生工作先进集体、全国群体工作先进集体、全国艺术教育先进集体、全国先进基层党组织、湖南基层党建示范点、湖南省文明单位。

Chang Jun Middle School, a well-known key middle school in Hunan Province, situates in the prosperous Commercial-walking-Street of Changsha city. Beautiful Xiangjiang River flows beside her, gifting her a permanent power of freshing. Being Provincial Key middle school & National Modem-Education-Technology-Experiment School, there’re altogether 300teachers & cadres, 75classes and 5000 students in the school nowadays.
Our school has a long history of 98 years. As we all know, an attractive studying phenomenon appeared in the end of the Qing dynasty, A lot of schools were set up in China, which resulted great improvement to the culture of the country. Our school was just one of them However, at that time her name was not like the one of today, but “Changsha Fu Zhong xue Tang” It was set up by Yan Zhongji, changSha Zhi Fu at that time (equal to today’s Governor of a province). It was the sole school in Hunan Province at that time. Of course, she was honored a high reputation.
Since her foundation, nearly a century has passed. During the long period, our school has formed a strict school-principle of “sincere & Honest, Calm & Persevering”. Since 1995, the Qualifying Rate of Junior & Senior Graduation Exam in our school has kept ranking the 1st in Changsha city, so does the Qualifying Rate of College-entrance=Exam. Meanwhile,. The qualifying Rate of University-Enrolling has also ranked the 1st in ChangSha city for 6 years. 5 students in our school have become Provincial Champions in terms of Liberal Arts & Science with their highest marks. In 1999, student Peng xiaoyu took part in the 10th International Biology Olympic competition, and successfully gained the Goldwith her lighest marks. For our school gymnastics team, since established in 1992, she has taken part in the World Mid-School Gymnastics Competition 4 times on behalf of China and has got altogether 5 Golds, 5 Silvers and 7 Coppers. Recently, in the above-provincial=level Olympic Competition in terms of senior school maths, physics, chemistry, biology and computer, we’ve got 8 Special Prizes and 59 first prizes.
In terms of art, when we took part in the 2nd and 3 rd Hunan Provincial Key Mid-School Art Showing, we got 5 1st prizes in terms of vocal music, instrumental music and dancing, and we successfully ranked the top one in total marks continuously twice.

In Nov. 2001, our school completed the merge with Lu San International Experiment School, which resulted the newborn of Chang Jun Education Group, the first basic education group in Hunan province.
