An immediate NIH funded post doctoral position is available to work on stem cells and growth factors for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This work involves novel neurosurgical methods to deliver hNSC’s genetically modified to release growth factors to the spinal cord. We are using a rat model of ALS that over-expresses an SOD1 mutation that leads to paralysis within 150 days. The applicant will have experience in neurosurgery (essential), and some background in cell and molecular neurobiology are preferred.
