Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Applications are invited for the above post to work on a project funded by the Wellcome Trust and the University of Nottingham entitled: “Signaling pathways modulating malaria parasite development and parasite-host interactions”. The main aim of the project is to characterize the function of different kinases/phosphatases/novel proteins involved in the signaling pathways regulating malaria parasite development and invasion in host cells. The research will involve gene transfection in rodent malaria parasite, manipulating parasite development in rodent and mosquito host, biochemical assay for kinase/phosphatase function and various in vitro culture assays to study parasite invasion pathways.
Candidates must possess a PhD in molecular biology or equivalent qualification in a related discipline. Previous experience of working in a molecular biology research environment especially in the area of signal transduction and development biology is essential, as is knowledge of tissue culture, microscopy, cloning and basic molecular techniques. A good understanding of any or all of the techniques such as gene transfection/targeting, molecular parasitology, immunocytochemistry, and electron microscopy is desirable.
Salary will be within the range £25,134 – £32,796 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience (salary can progress to £35,837 per annum, subject to performance). This post is available from 1 April 2008 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of three years.
